Domestic technology is the incorporation of applied science into the home. There are many aspects of domestic technology. On one level, there are domestic appliances and other devices commonly used in the home, such as driers and washing machines. These things are itemized below. On another level, domestic technology recognizes the use of applied science to construct homes to achieve a particular goal, such as energy efficiency or self sufficiency.

For more information, read about self-sufficient homes. It has been claimed that domestic technology has led to decreases in the time people spend on household work, although the factual basis of this claim is disputed (Bittman et al., 2004).

A blender is a kitchen appliance used to blend ingredients or puree food. The term typically refers to a stationary, upright electrical device, which is to be distinguished from a hand-powered or electric mixer that may be used for similar purposes.

A typical blender is built around a vessel for the ingredients to be blended. At the top of the vessel is a cap to prevent ingredients from escaping when the blender is switched on. At the bottom is a blade assembly, typically removable for cleaning purposes. The bottom seal is most likely watertight. The vessel rests upon a base containing a motor (for turning the blade assembly) with controls on its surface. Most modern blenders offer a number of possible speeds. Another type of blender is the immersion blender.

In 1922, Stephen Poplawski invented the blender. Stephen Poplawski was the first to put a spinning blade at the bottom of a container. He used his appliance to make soda fountain drinks. In 1935, Fred Osius improved on Poplawski's idea and invented the famous Waring Blender.

This device is often used in internet cartoons involving small animals or persons who have earned public disdain. A bread machine or bread maker is a home appliance for baking bread. It consists of a bread pan with a paddle mounted in the centre, in a small special-purpose oven, with a control panel. Using a bread maker is a convenient way to avoid the hydrogenated vegetable oil that supermarkets add to their bread to make it bake more quickly. The first bread maker was released in Japan in 1986. A decade later they had become popular in the United Kingdom and the United States.

To create a loaf of bread, flour, water, salt, sugar, yeast, butter and milk powder (or fresh milk) are measured onto the bread pan and the pan is then placed in the bread maker. The machine takes a few hours to make a loaf of bread, first by turning the ingredients into dough using the paddle, then baking the loaf. Once the bread has been baked and given time to cool, the pan is extracted from the bread maker and the bread freed from the pan. The paddle, now at the bottom of the loaf, is removed, leaving a small paddle-shaped hole. Packets of bread mix are available, specifically designed for bread makers, consisting of the ingredients pre-measured. Only water needs to be added.
